19-year-old suspect detained in shooting with injuries in Chelsea
SHELBY Co., Ala. (WBRC) - Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a shooting with injuries in Chelsea on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
Deputies were called to a shooting on Brandy Circle before 2 p.m. Deputies confirmed a man and woman were shot.
Both victims were taken to a Birmingham area hospital for treatment for their injuries where they are currently in stable condition.
During the initial response to the call, Chelsea Middle School was placed on a soft lockdown until additional information was known.
Deputies said the 19-year-old suspect, Nicholas Tyler Hardin, was detained. Hardin was charged with two counts of Assault 1st. He is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000.
Sheriff John Samaniego stated, “I’m incredibly proud of our patrol deputies for taking quick action, securing our area schools, apprehending the suspect, and making the scene safe to render aid. Our investigators will continue to work diligently to ensure all facts in this case are brought to light.”
